An Officer and a Firefighter
by Rob Jeffery
In the winter of 1959 in Manchester, New Hampshire, a call to the fire department resulted in a call to The Salvation Army to provide on-scene assistance. Here, an unknown Salvation Army officer provides a heartening cup of coffee or tea to a firefighter working in the frigid cold, beside a fire truck draped with icicles.
“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water [or a warm beverage, we might add!] to one of these … that person will certainly not lose their reward.” —Matthew 10:42
