Pamela Sloan | WPA Division
Pamela Sloan, known to her friends and family as Pam, is the caseworker at The Salvation Army Homewood Brushton Corps, where she has been serving the community for just over a year. She was born and raised in this neighborhood, although it has changed over the years with increased poverty, drug use, and abandoned homes and businesses. She is proud to be part of the effort to restore hope and resources to the place she once called home.
Pam holds an associate degree in social work and has 20 years of experience in the social service field. Her journey began as a young mother, which inspired her to help other young women become educated and self-sufficient. Her first role was with an agency focused on reducing infant mortality through health education and support, and that experience laid the foundation for her lifelong passion for serving others.
At The Salvation Army, Pam strives to offer more than just resources. She also offers a listening ear. She maintains an open-door policy because she believes in being present for people, whether they need assistance or simply someone to talk to. She meets people where they are and works to create a welcoming space where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. Seeing the smiles on their faces reminds her that she is making a difference. Whether it’s organizing food, toy distributions, backpack events, camp sign-ups, or simply being available for conversation, she finds joy in making a difference, one smile at a time. The Homewood Brushton Corps and community feel like an extended family, and she looks forward to seeing familiar faces each week, even if they’re just stopping by to say hello.
Outside of work, Pam loves spending time with her four children and three grandchildren. She enjoys hosting family dinners and barbecues, being outdoors, and taking long walks with her goldendoodle, Jackson.
“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
—Psalm 82:3–4
March is Social Worker Appreciation Month. Social workers uplift, defend, and transform lives for people, families, and communities, and The Salvation Army is grateful for those who serve.
