Easter Eggstravaganza

On Saturday, April 8, 2023, the Youth Group of the East Stroudsburg, PA corps hosted their annual Easter Eggstravaganza. Their focus remained the same as years previous – first and foremost, to present the Gospel to children who may or may not be a part of our weekly Christian education and secondly, to offer these local families an inexpensive afternoon of fun. All 105 (plus maybe a few more) started in the chapel where we heard about Jesus’ death and resurrection being a part of God’s story. And, we danced!  A fun freeze dance to Jesus is Alive. Those under 12 were then sent off to find plastic eggs filled with candy, stickers, and small toys!

Once all the eggs were found, we returned to the chapel for door prizes while the Youth Group and their parents headed down to the gym and multi-purpose room for the next phase of the fun.

Meanwhile, every child in attendance received a free meal pass from our local Texas Roadhouse, and a full-size Hershey bar with personalized wrappers noting all of our worship service and program times. All were invited to join us for worship on Resurrection Sunday!

The next couple of hours were full of fun and food. Cotton candy was flying, sno-cones in a rainbow of flavors, and hot dog/chips for lunch. All priced at under $1. In the gym, balloons were being popped, bean bags and rings were being tossed, wiffle balls and frisbees were being thrown, ducks were being chosen…all for just $0.25 each attempt and all rewarded with a candy or small toy. In summary, fun was being had!

The Youth Group looks forward to this event each year, and we think the community does as well. It’s an afternoon designed to celebrate family and faith.
