Leaders behaving badly
The good prophet Micah proclaimed,
“The godly man has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; each hunts his brother with a net. . . Both their hands are put forth and are upon what is evil to do it diligently; the prince and the judge ask for a bribe, and the great man utters his evil desire. Thus they twist between them [the course of justice]. . . [Micah 7 AMP]
Micah saw a threefold cord of leadership, the prince, the judge, and the great man, each conspiring to selfishness, and depravity. Leaders whose authority had been given them to advocate, to protect, to serve had abdicated those duties in favor of fulfilling their own selfish desires.
What message of hope is here for us today? The message is to LOOK TO GOD.
He is the provider of forgiveness, mercy, loving-kindness, and compassion. The child of God is called to reflect the light of Jesus. Matthew 25 finds Jesus praising his brothers and sisters that have fed the hungry, satiated the thirsty, visited the prisoner, and the sick person in Jesus name.
He gives praise to the persons that served the least in society, unknowingly they also served the King of Kings. Conversely, when we fail to love, to share, to be our brother’s keeper, we fail to reflect the love of Jesus, we no longer act “in His name”. Should we be surprised when an unbeliever is ignorant of the divine rule and responsibility to love? No, but when the child of God is led by “religion” or “political ideologies” instead of the Word of God tragedy is not far behind.
The child of God must be wary of losing hope and ready to share, words AND actions of encouragement. The good news, Jesus has made possible salvation, forgiveness, mercy, grace, and love!
