Each Day’s Surprise

Giving a gift, handmade present wrapped in paper10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 “Happy New Year” has resounded all over the world! Many will be happy, elated and looking forward to welcoming in another year! Others will question, “Why so much excitement—it is only going to bring more heartache, difficulty, sorrow and so on.”

No matter how unsure things may seem we are reminded that each day has so many things in stored for us if we simply welcome it with excitement and anticipation!

Henri Nouwen reminds us, “Each day holds a surprise. But only if we expect it can we see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us. Let’s not be afraid to receive each day’s surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy. It will open a new place in our hearts, a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate more fully our shared humanity.”

There are 360 days before we welcome in “2018” and for us to take to heart Henri Nouwen’s words. May 2017 be a year of looking at each day as a gift from our Lord and anticipate each day to be filled with joy, hope, peace, love even if things around you may seem gloomy and/or difficult.
