The Salvation Army Akron Ohio Hydroponics Farm

The Salvation Army’s 5,300-square-foot, state-of-the-art, controlled-environment agriculture installation has been designed in collaboration with Crop King of Lodi, and the local Ohio State University Extension Office, and is expected to produce nearly 20,000 pounds of tomatoes and over 19,000 heads of lettuce each year. Fresh Face Farm will serve as a learning lab for the Salvation Army’s Learning Zone students and provide fresh produce for their families, its Community Table mobile feeding program and other community partners. Students will learn about growing and eating healthy food as well as computer skills, plant propagation and pollination, problem solving, marketing and packaging, according to officials.
