The Salvation Army
Territorial Headquarters – USA East
Office of the Territorial Commander

 March 25, 2020

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

I want to express a deep word of appreciation for all that you are doing to fulfill mission and ministry during these days.

After a great deal of prayer, thought and consultation, it has been decided that the 2020 Vision Congress be canceled.  Obviously this will alter the planning of many individuals across the territory.  It was encouraging to know that as of this date we had nearly 4,000 delegates registered, however, the events of our world have placed us in a position that dictates a change in our plans.

The Commissioning of Cadets will take place, but with an altered schedule. Those details will be forthcoming.  Much of the planning will be dictated by the actions, regulations and plans that our government will be taking in the future.

In addition, with a great deal of prayer, thought and consideration it has been decided to cancel the Old Orchard Beach Camp Meetings for 2020.  There are many details that need to be reviewed and altered.  There will be no official participation required of any officers, and there will be no official Minute covering the dates of the Camp Meetings.  We will attempt to have some form of worship on the weekend for those who will be vacationing in the area.  This will be a huge change for many Salvationists and friends of the Army, but I believe this is the course we should take during this time.

There will be other steps taken to allow us to fulfill our mission mandate – “to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

You are deeply loved.  Thank you for your faithful service.

 In His service,

William A. Bamford, Commissioner
