SUCCESS GUIDE FOR OFFICERS

SUCCESS GUIDE FOR OFFICERS

SUCCESS GUIDE FOR OFFICERS

In 1996, our Territory gathered in Niagara Falls, NY to seek God’s power upon our Army. With the thundering majesty of rushing water serving as a visual metaphor, Salvationists claimed the promise of blessing in Jesus’ name. The results from our “PowerPoint” Congress were inspiring! Young people were called to and equipped for leadership…the Kroc Centers opened across the Territory…expressions of praise and prayer in worship have been invigorated through creativity and technology…simply put, The Salvation Army was empowered by God for mission!

“…we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD,

his power, and the wonders He has done.” (Psalm 78:4, NIV)

A generation has passed since then. The retelling of God’s goodness upon our Army is stirring up a desire to see His blessing fall again in a mighty way. Today’s generation of seekers and saints need to be united by the Holy Spirit for mission in Jesus’ name.

Commissioner Barry Swanson is calling the Territory to gather together in body and in spirit. Our theme will be: STRIKEPOINT! Focused action in specific areas of ministry that will achieve gains and growth for our Army. Those four STRIKEPOINTS are:

  • Deeper Discipleship
  • Skilled Leadership
  • Integrated Mission (Urban Focus)
  • Young Adult Empowerment

Our gathering this June in Hershey will provide inspiration for those attending from Centers and Corps across the Territory. After we meet we must begin to implement the themes of STRIKEPOINT.

This packet of resources is designed to help you, the Officer, launch a campaign in your community. You should schedule to launch a 4-week local Campaign to kick off your fall program year. Study guides, interactive technology, sermon outlines, and more are available to you to get started. The materials are flexible to meet the needs of every location in our Territory.

These are beginning days for this Campaign, and we trust that the Lord will instill within us all a desire to share His glory and His love with a new generation of Salvationists in His Army!

“I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever; with my mouth

I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.” (Psalm 89:1, NIV)

The STRIKEPOINT of Discipleship – Enduring mission is always a product of authentic discipleship. All soldiers need to be trained and equipped for the war. Similarly, to develop an Army of Salvation, we must intentionally cultivate spiritual disciplines and be brought closer to the mind and heart of Christ. An intentional move towards systematic and creative Bible Study is critical to ensuring that we are armed with the Sword of the Spirit. Through transforming worship and faithful intercessory prayer, we believe that the principalities and powers of darkness will be disarmed as we strike our target in the power of the Holy Spirit.

The STRIKEPOINT of Leadership – In order to build a true Army, we need to build a network of leaders – from young children who are being given their first leadership responsibilities, to Local Officers who are serving at Corps, to Candidates who will become Officers to serve throughout the Territory, and possibly the world.

The STRIKEPOINT of Youth – How do we reach this next generation ensuring that they are saved, sanctified and integrated as active salvation soldiers in our community engaged in mission? Our planis to define relevant and effective evangelistic strategies to bring the gospel to emerging generations. We will connect with and reclaim the next generation.

The STRIKEPOINT of Mission – We are a movement, and we are called to be forward moving. TheSalvation Army was born as an urban movement – the streets of the inner-city were considered therealm of the enemy, but through the ministry of The Salvation Army, we reclaimed these streets for the King! This is our strength and our calling. We are called to march to the margins of ourcommunity and go to the places where people have been forgotten. Our plan is to reconnect to thecommunities in which we serve to develop an authentic expression of the gospel through the loving relationships we will cultivate. We will advance our Army as an urban movement.
