“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
How many of you have already begun to make plans to go to the pumpkin patch to pick out that perfect autumn pumpkin? The first thing you notice upon arrival to a pumpkin patch is the overwhelmingly huge number to choose from. All different shapes and sizes. The process of growing pumpkins however is not as easy as it is to pick them. The farmer must make sure the ground is properly prepared, the seeds are planted at the correct depth, the ground stays fertile and healthy, the plants stay safe from bugs and weather and animals. The farmer must work hard and long to make sure that the pumpkins grow successfully, but on the day of harvest, oh what a sight! Rows and rows of beautiful pumpkins ready for harvest.
Sometimes we can grow weary in the process of cultivating spiritual growth in ourselves and in others. Are we spiritually feeding ourselves enough to grow? Are the roots deep enough as to not be uprooted when the ground changes? Are we protecting ourselves from the elements that pick away at us until we are no longer thriving? It takes a lot of effort and time and discipline (prayer, time in the word, fellowship) to grow the way God desires to see us to, but we are encouraged that our efforts are not in vain! Don’t stop! Keep going! The harvest will be a beautiful representation of Gods work in your life and it will be as abundant and vast as the pumpkin patches in autumn.
